The next post
A question about the text that I want to know is how come there isn’t much cussing? Normally, people of a lower class have a foul language and people of the much higher class will have them too. They say that it is a lack of knowledge or vocabulary and that is why people will cuss. If District 12 is so poor then you would assume that they wouldn’t have very good schooling program and wouldn’t be very knowledgeable. The higher classes also seem to have foul mouths. I do not really know why that is. My guess would be that they feel like they have power or are putting someone down by using it. Either way there are poor people and rich people in this book and I am just curious why there isn’t any cussing. I also would like to know if it really benefits with all the detail in the book. I love the detail because it makes you really feel like you are there but there really isn’t that much going on and the train ride to the capitol takes forever. Is it supposed to be that way so that it makes you feel like you’re on the train I’m guessing or is it drug on way to much? I haven’t read too much so I don’t really know if this is more off a good thing or if later I’ll think that this book just elaborates way too much. Those are some questions about the text that I would like to know!

New free writing
A big question that I would like to know is why do they have the games? The book might have said it but I did not catch it if it did. Why is this capitol such a big deal? I do not understand it. It seems like everyone thinks that they have to give back to it. Another question that i have is why do they treat these people in the games like gods? They give them everything they want. Most of the people in the games did not want to be there they were chosen to be so why are they treated special? Also why do these people have to die? I know that everyone wants to see blood but why wouldn’t they just watch TV? I have not gotten to the actual games yet so I have a lot of questions about that but I am assuming that those questions will be answered. I am very surprised that they allow girls into the arena. Things like this are just normally things that men do but I guess that would make it fair. This book was a very clever idea and I am so anxious to finish it and start the next one. I have a lot of questions about what could possibly be in the second book too much it would probably help answer some if I finish the first one first. I also do not understand why these places are so poor. How can there be no one that is considered rich in this town? If everyone is so poor there why wouldn’t the people leave and move to a richer town?

Hunger Games guided response 2
The title goes so well with this story. The games are so intense and, to me, make you hungry for more. The more you read the more you want to read. All the detail and everything about the games makes you want to know what happens next. I couldn’t imagine being on the train on the way to the games. That would be so nerve racking. I think the title is a very curious title as well. If you just read the title alone and know nothing about the book, you can get all sorts of ideas. Once you start to read the book though it gets you really excited to learn about these games. The whole beginning gets your mind wondering because everything that is said seems to revolve around these games and for it to be called “Hunger” games it just makes you think who or what is hungry and what for. Are there huge animals that come from hiding somewhere and not only do you have to fight other people you have to kill starving animals? Or is it the crowd that is hungry for death so whether or not you win the battle they will kill you anyways so people can see death? After starting the book I really want to know what or who is the hungry one. I am so excited to keep reading and I have no idea what to expect. All I can think about at the moment is Hunger Games and how Katnis, the girl, is going to stay alive.

Free writing for The Hunger Games
The book Hunger Games is an incredible book. All the detail that goes into this book is amazing. The author really makes you feel like you are there. It is so easy to forget everything that is going on around you and block out all noise when you read this book. You get so involved and so focused on what is happening it’s awesome. There is a part in the book that the character is in a room before she enters the games. In this room you see your family and the ones close to you one more time before you enter the arena just in case you do not come back out. Collins, the author, talks about the room and how he says, "It’s the richest place I've ever been in, with thick, deep carpets and a velvet couch and chairs." Things like this that Collins says make you feel like you can see it right in front of you. It is like you are actually walking through the room. The emotions that the text gives you are kind of different. Sometimes you feel sorry for the main characters because they seem like they had it very rough. The main characters father has died and she has to support the family at age 11 because her mother shuts off the world. Katniss, the main character, talks about how she has to hunt and gather as much food as possible so that the family doesn’t look like they are starved. If they look to hungry then the children have to be taken to the children’s home away from each other and their mother.

Recommendation
Thirteen Reasons Why is a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone. I am not much of a read, if a reader at all, but I loved this book. The think anyone that enjoys reading and some that do not will like this book. This book keeps you interested the whole time and wondering what would happen next. A few parts in the book feel like they drag on but then your right back into it. This book really makes you start wondering a lot of things in life. It makes you think about all the things that you have done and said and ways that you could have changed them or maybe just kept something to your self. I never have been one to make fun of other people or put anyone down in any type of way that I know of and after reading this book I really do not know what kind of affect I have had on people. Thirteen Reasons Why will really get your mind wondering and make you look back on your life and the things you have done and wonder what the true affect you had on that person with the things you did. This book isn’t for everyone but I think that you should at least start it and see how hard it really is to put down.

Guided. About Clay
The main character, Clay, I like so far. He seems to be really nice and doesn’t seem to be a bad kid but I do not know why he is in the book so far. Through out the first part of the book he seems to come across and a girl, to me, but later you find out he is a boy and it changes a lot of my thinking. He is thoughtful and considerate and does what is asked of him because he feels it is his duty, which I completely agree. I do not think he did anything wrong to Hannah but everyone else has been negative so far so I am not too sure yet. As of right now I think he deserves a lot of credit just because he is willing to go through all of this for her. Most people would say forget it and just throw the tapes away because they would rather not know but Clay follows through with Hannah’s wishes. He goes to every spot she asks of them and listens very closely and connects everything with what happened to him at those times. He doesn’t seem like he blames anyone or judges them for what they have done, he just accepts it and realizes that everyone makes mistakes but does not realize how important they really are. At this point in the book I think Clay is a good kid and tries to do the right thing all the time and I do not think that anyone should say bad things about him but that all may change by the end of the book.

Something that has had a major effect on my life is the articles I read in my criminal justice classes. They talked about all the kids in jail and the reasons they are in jail. This blows my mind because the ages of these kids are so young and their minds haven’t even developed yet. They are ruining their lives before they are even started. There are kids that have murdered people and some that are transporting drugs. I cannot even imagine being an adult and knowing that I did something that made this kid ruin his life. The reason most of the kids do these things is because the people they look up to do them or they are forced too. There are girls as young as 8 and maybe even younger that are selling their bodies on the street for money. I could never see a girl that young and pick her up for a night. That just makes me sick. I also couldn’t imagine giving a kid a lot of drugs and telling him to take them somewhere for me. What if you were in a fire fight and there was a 9 year old kid pointing a gun at you getting ready to shoot? As a cop, what do you do? Do you kill him before he kills you or do you let him take your life and give the opportunity for him to do it again? These things go on everyday in this world.

guided response #1
The title of the book I think was a great title. I am only into the second reason why but I think that the title fits perfectly so far. As soon as you read the title it catches your eye and makes you wonder. So many possibilities could be why the author chose this title. Each reason you read in the book makes you wonder what the next person had done to her and makes you wonder how bad it could be. Suicide is a major decision and for there to be thirteen reasons why you wonder so many different things. Not only is there thirteen reason why but it is also thirteen different people and your concerns make you think how some things that happen be such a problem with this girl considering that probably so many people out there go through the same thing. What makes this girl take these things so personally to do something so selfish as to commit suicide? Because of this question it makes me want to read more to find out if it all comes together or if she was just selfish. Another thing that I wonder about is what she was trying to prove by telling the thirteen reasons. For her to do these tapes and to sit and think about the reasons that she must have had this planned for awhile. I just could not imagine the guilt that I would put on someone and the reputation I would give them to everyone if I sent tapes out like that. For someone to do that to someone else must have had a major impact from them on their life, or what used to be.

Week Three:
The reason I am taking this class is because I have never read a book and I do not ever read anything. I have a very poor vocabulary and I am not someone you would call very book smart. However, I do have common sense. I am much better working with my hands then doing any type of school work. It will be a major challenge for me starting off because I have nothing in common with this class but that’s also why I am taking it. I want to read and I do not want to sound like an idiot when I talk or interact with people of higher authority then I am. I hope that in this class and can at least expand my reading ability and that it will open me up to a lot of new things. I know that just by taking this class will not change who I am or what my interests are but it might help me not despise everything about reading and maybe, just maybe enjoy it a little. I have tried to read a lot of different things because everyone tells me I just have not found something that I am interested in yet but everything that does interests me does not if I have to read about it. I do not know if there is like a secret behind reading that gets you to get involved but what ever it is i would like to know so please tell me!
